Best thing: Budget-friendly 1080p IPS second screen

Honest catch: Dim (250 nits) with limited colour (45% NTSC) next to modern laptop screens

Our verdict

If you want a cheap, light second screen for documents, spreadsheets, video calls or a console on the go, start here: two USB-C ports, HDMI, speakers and a case come in the box. The trade-off is the panel — 250 nits and a 45% NTSC colour range look dim and muted next to a modern laptop, so it is a work and travel screen, not one for photo editing or bright rooms.

The InnoView INVPM406 is the simple way to add a second screen to a laptop without spending much. Its 15.6-inch IPS panel shows 1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz, the monitor weighs about 1.5 lb, and the folio case protects the screen in a bag and folds into the stand on the desk. Two full-function USB-C ports and a mini HDMI port mean it works with USB-C laptops and phones that output video, and with consoles or older laptops over HDMI. InnoView includes a USB-C cable and a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable, and dual speakers and a 3.5 mm audio jack are built in.

Why you’ll like it

  1. 01

One USB-C cable carries picture and power from laptops and phones whose USB-C port outputs video (DisplayPort Alt Mode or Thunderbolt) — no charger needed on the desk.

  2. 02

No video over USB-C? Use the mini HDMI port for laptops, PCs and consoles, and power the monitor through its second USB-C port from a charger or power bank.

  3. 03

The folio case shields the screen in your bag and folds into the stand, so there is nothing extra to carry.

  4. 04

Built-in dual speakers and a 3.5 mm jack mean videos and calls work without extra gear.

  5. 05

At about 1.5 lb with a slim aluminium body, it fits in a backpack next to your laptop.

Great for

  • Students and remote workers who want an inexpensive second screen
  • Laptop users who travel and need extra screen space
  • Console players who want a small screen with HDMI

Maybe skip it if

  • You edit photos or need accurate colour
  • You work in bright rooms or near windows
  • Your laptop has no video over USB-C and you do not want to carry a charger

Questions people ask

Will one USB-C cable work with my laptop?

Only if your laptop’s USB-C port outputs video — USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt or USB4 (often marked with a DP or lightning-bolt icon). Then one cable carries picture and power. If not, connect with the included mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable and power the monitor through its other USB-C port from a charger.

Is a power adapter included?

InnoView’s box list shows the monitor, case, a USB-C cable and a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable, without an adapter. InnoView pairs this model with an 18 W adapter, so use a USB-C wall charger or a power bank when the laptop or phone cannot power it.

Does it work with consoles and iPhone?

InnoView lists the Switch, PS5/PS4 and Xbox. Consoles plug into the mini HDMI port with the included cable, and the monitor then takes power through USB-C. For an iPhone, InnoView says you need an extra adapter.
