How we rank products
RightScore is our own transparent product score. Here is what goes into it, what never does, and what happens when data is missing.
On this page
RightScore is a score from 0 to 10 that summarises how a product compares with others in its category, based only on data we can trace. This page describes version rs-1.0 of the method.
What goes into RightScore
| Component | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Value | 30% | Price compared with similar products in the same category that have comparable specifications. Needs current prices for at least five comparable products. |
| Specifications | 30% | The product's key specifications against its category peers — for example battery life, storage or brightness, depending on the category. A specification counts only when enough peers report it. |
| Offer health | 15% | How many stores currently have the product in stock, and how recently those offers were confirmed. |
| Data confidence | 10% | How reliably we can identify the product (verified identifiers such as GTIN or UPC), how many independent sources we have and how complete its specifications are. |
| Alternatives | 15% | How the product stands against close alternatives: same category, overlapping specifications and a price within about 30%. Needs at least three alternatives. |
Each component is scored from 0 to 10. RightScore is the weighted average of the components that have enough data; components without enough data are left out rather than guessed.
When we show "Not enough data"
We do not publish a score when fewer than three components have enough data, or when our confidence in the product data is below 50%. In that case the product page says Not enough data instead of showing a number. A missing score says nothing bad about a product — it means we cannot rate it fairly yet.
What never affects RightScore
- commission rates, affiliate status or payments from stores and networks;
- advertising or partnership requests;
- clicks on our links.
The scoring code does not read affiliate or commission data at all.
How lists and picks are ordered
- Search results and category pages are ordered by how well products match your query and the filters you choose; sorting options let you pick another order.
- Best-picks pages state their selection criteria at the top, and every pick explains why it is there.
- Deals only describe a price as a drop when we have enough reliable price history — at least 30 days and eight price observations. We compare with the typical (median) recent price, not with an inflated "list" price.
Freshness of prices
Offers that have not been confirmed for 72 hours are treated as stale: we stop showing their price and ask you to check the current price at the store. Prices from different countries or currencies are never mixed.
Halal policy
Before any product can appear, it passes our halal policy check. Products in excluded categories are never listed, and products whose status is unclear wait for manual review.
Versions and changes
Every change to the weights or rules creates a new version of the method, and each product's score history records which version produced it. This page is updated whenever the version changes.
