Best thing: Two OLED screens in one foldable unit

Honest catch: Mac, ChromeOS and phones show only the lower screen in single-cable extend mode (ASUS FAQ)

Our verdict

For Windows laptop users who want the most screen space they can carry, nothing else in this guide does more: two colour-accurate OLED screens, extended from one USB-C cable. It is the priciest and heaviest pick, has no speakers, and ASUS’s own FAQ says Macs, Chromebooks and phones show only the lower screen in single-cable extend mode — Mac owners should choose a single-screen monitor instead.

The ZenScreen Duo OLED MQ149CD puts two 14-inch 1920 × 1200 OLED panels on one 360° hinge, so a single item in your bag gives you two extra screens — stacked, side by side, or folded into a tent so a client across the table can see one of them. Each panel covers 100% of DCI-P3 with Delta E < 2 accuracy, is rated 400 nits (500 nits HDR peak) and is VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certified. There are two USB-C ports with DisplayPort Alt Mode and a mini HDMI port, an integrated kickstand and a 1/4-inch tripod socket, and it weighs 1.07 kg (2.36 lb). The power adapter, two USB-C cables, a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable and a sleeve are in the box.

Why you’ll like it

  1. 01

Two extra screens from one bag item: email and chat on one, your document on the other, and the laptop screen stays free.

  2. 02

Tent mode turns one screen towards the person across the table — useful for sales demos, tutoring and presentations.

  3. 03

OLED panels with 100% DCI-P3 and Delta E < 2 show accurate colour and true blacks for photos and video.

  4. 04

Split mode joins both panels into one tall canvas for long documents, code and timelines.

  5. 05

Independent mode shows a different device on each screen, such as a laptop on one and a phone or console on the other.

  6. 06

Power adapter, two USB-C cables, a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable and a sleeve are all in the box.

  • Presenters and tutors who face a client or student

Maybe skip it if

Questions people ask

Will one USB-C cable drive both screens?

On a Windows laptop whose USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, plug into the monitor’s USB-C 2 port and choose Extend in the on-screen menu: the two panels act as two monitors. ASUS’s FAQ says Mac, ChromeOS and phones show the picture on the lower screen only, and HDMI does not support extend mode.

Does it work with a MacBook at all?

Yes, ASUS says MacBooks with USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode (all Thunderbolt and Apple-silicon models) work without drivers — but in single-cable extend mode only the lower screen shows a picture. If you mainly use a Mac, a single-screen OLED monitor is the better buy.

Do I need the power adapter?

A USB-C laptop can power it, but ASUS says the adapter improves brightness and stability, and it is needed when you connect over HDMI. ASUS lists no pass-through charging for your laptop on this model.
