Best thing: Very strong noise cancelling for earbuds

Honest catch: Many features need an iPhone; limited on Android

Our verdict

If you use an iPhone, these are the earbuds to beat: what Apple calls the world’s best in-ear noise cancellation, workout heart-rate tracking, hearing-health features and a case with a Find My speaker. On Android they work only as basic Bluetooth earbuds, and total battery with the case (up to 24 hours) is modest, so Android users should look elsewhere.

AirPods Pro 3 remove up to twice as much unwanted noise as AirPods Pro 2, according to Apple, helped by new foam-infused ear tips in five sizes and the H2 chip. They add heart-rate sensing for up to 50 workout types in the Fitness app, are rated IP57 for dust, sweat and water, and last up to 8 hours with noise cancelling on (up to 24 hours with the case). With an iPhone you also get Live Translation, Personalized Spatial Audio and an FDA-authorized Hearing Aid feature.

Why you’ll like it

  1. 01

Apple says they remove up to twice as much noise as AirPods Pro 2, so trains and flights get a lot calmer with something that fits in your pocket.

  2. 02

Five ear-tip sizes, from XXS to L, with foam-infused tips for a more secure fit and a better seal.

  3. 03

Built-in heart-rate sensing tracks heart rate and calories burned in up to 50 workout types — no watch needed.

  4. 04

IP57 for both the earbuds and the case, so sweat, rain and dusty trails are not a worry.

  5. 05

Live Translation, Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness help on trips and in the office (Live Translation needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone).

  6. 06

Lose one? Precision Finding reaches 1.5× farther than on AirPods Pro 2, and the case has a speaker to help you track it down.

Great for

  • iPhone owners who want one pair for commuting, calls and the gym
  • Runners and gym-goers who want heart-rate data without a watch
  • Adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss (Hearing Aid feature)

Maybe skip it if

  • You use an Android phone

Questions people ask

Do AirPods Pro 3 work with Android?

Yes, as standard Bluetooth earbuds, but with limited features. Live Translation, heart-rate sensing and the hearing-health tools rely on Apple devices.

Are they waterproof?

They are rated IP57 for dust, sweat and water resistance (earbuds and case), which suits workouts but not water sports. Resistance can decrease with normal wear.

Is a charging cable included?

No. The USB-C cable is sold separately, but the case also charges on a MagSafe charger, a Qi-certified pad or an Apple Watch charger.

Can they work as a hearing aid?

Yes. Apple’s FDA-authorized Hearing Aid feature is for adults 18+ with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss; it is set up with a compatible iPhone.
